I help Christian women break up with perfectionism and discover the life-changing power of God’s grace.
Let’s face it: you’re exhausted from constantly striving to meet impossible standards, believing it’s the only way to earn God’s love and acceptance. You hear scriptures like “Be perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect” (Matt. 5:48) and wonder if you’ll ever measure up.
But what if God’s heart for you is different than you think?
Lenee' Pezzano: Have you ever been to a wedding and heard the vows? I'm guessing you might even be able to recite a vow or two on the spot. You know, love is patient, love is, you get my drift. Fun fact, marriage vows are not actually in scripture. At least not verbatim. While the words might not be found in scripture, the principles embedded in them reflect the sacred covenant of marriage.
Lenee' Pezzano: And values God takes seriously. Ecclesiastes 5:4-5 reminds us, When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools. Fulfill your vow. It is better not to make a vowel than to make one and not fulfill it. Hoo wee! Did you catch that?
[00:01:00]
Lenee' Pezzano: Now, you might be thinking, Okay, okay, I get it. Vowels are incredibly important. But what does that have to do with loving myself? That's the question that will be answered on today's episode. When you grasp the answer to the question of how the importance of vows has to do with loving yourself, your entire relationship with God will shift and your spirit will change.
Lenee' Pezzano: Well, you'll be renewed, refreshed, and restored. And sister, you will walk in a freedom you did not know was possible. Hey sis, I'm Lenee’ Pezzano, author, certified speaker, and creator and fellow imperfect traveler who is still learning to trade the heavy backpack of self-criticism and condemnation for the lighter yoke of God's truth.
[00:02:00]
Lenee' Pezzano: The redeem perfectionist podcast was created just for you a safe space to return to when you need the reminder that your heavenly father treasures you. He looked at you with all your imperfections and said, You're worth it. You were on a path to eternal separation, but he stepped in and declared, this one is mine.
Lenee' Pezzano: I want to be with her. Oh, sister, how amazing is that?
Lenee' Pezzano: Isaiah 54:5 says for thy maker is thy husband. When the Lord proposed to you, offering his eternal rose, he made a vow to stick with you no matter what. He promised to love you even when your breath is stinky, when you can't decide what to order for dinner.
[00:03:00]
Lenee' Pezzano: Or when you're rocking mismatched socks and bedhead. He vowed to cheer you on when you chase your wildest dreams, even if it's learning to dance with two left feet and to hold your hand When life feels as messy as your junk drawer, he's there to laugh at your cringiest jokes, cry with you during those late night ugly tears, and still call you beautiful, even when you've gained 20 pounds.
Lenee' Pezzano: Whether it's the best day ever, or a stay in pajamas and binge watch kind of day. He's your faithful partner, loving you unconditionally and endlessly. Do you see it? Perfectionism chains you to self-criticism and endless striving.
[00:04:00]
Lenee' Pezzano: But God calls you to freedom. Loving yourself is an act of releasing those chains and stepping into the abundant life Christ died to give you.
Lenee' Pezzano: If this is God's heart toward you, you have full permission to break up with perfectionism, let go of those impossible standards, and start embracing yourself the way he already does. Let's make this real for you.
Lenee' Pezzano: Over the next several days, I encourage you to take some time for yourself to reflect on this.
Lenee' Pezzano: Find a quiet, peaceful space where you can sit still with God and simply be in His presence. As you reflect, consider the importance of vows in God's eyes. How sacred He considers marriage and His unwavering commitment to you.
[00:05:00]
Passages like Isaiah 54:5, Romans 8:38-39, and Psalm 139 can offer beautiful inspiration as you think about the vows he's made to you.
Lenee' Pezzano: When you feel ready, you might respond to his love by writing a personal vow back to him. This could include things like trusting him more deeply, accepting his love without conditions, or seeing yourself the way he sees you. For example, you might say something like, Lord, I vow to embrace your love for me, even when I feel unworthy.
Lenee' Pezzano: Or, I vow to lean on your strength instead of my own. Perhaps, I vow to see myself as you see me, valuable and worth laying down your life for. When you feel ready, you could also consider writing a personal vow to yourself. It might sound like, I vow to speak to myself with kindness as I would to a friend who is struggling.
[00:06:00]
Lenee' Pezzano: Or, I vow to forgive myself quickly when I make a mistake. Maybe something like, I vow to start each day speaking life to myself, reminding myself how valuable and beautiful I am to God. Take a moment to pray over these words and ask God for the strength to help these truths take root in your heart, replacing the lies you've believed.
Lenee' Pezzano: Sis, I am so glad you're here. You've got this. I believe in you.
Lenee' Pezzano: And I am cheering you on every step of the way. Come hang out with us next week for the episode. how not to worry about the how and learn how to enjoy the who.
